Complete reconstruction of the 1912 Art-Nouveau architectural gem

Spa Hotel Thermia Palace and Irma balneotherapy center with their unique features represent the best of Slovak Art-Nouveau architecture. After complete reconstruction the hotel will be the only five-star spa hotel in Slovakia.

Reconstruction of the Thermia Palace – Irma complex had been planned for several years when on December 15, 2005, the Board of Directors of Health Spa Piešťany, Inc. – a member of the Danubius Hotels Group – approved the complete reconstruction of hotel Thermia Palace.
Health Spa Piešťany, Inc., and Austrian company AST Baugesellschaft mbH represented by AST Slovakia, Ltd., Bratislava, signed a contract for reconstruction of the Art-Nouveau Thermia Palace Hotel and a part of Irma balneotherapy on February 1, 2006. AST Baugesellschaft is based in Graz and operates subsidiaries in eight European countries. The company’s rich experience includes building and reconstructing four and five star hotels for such hotel chains as Kempinski, Hilton or Crowne Plaza. The reconstruction of the complex is scheduled to be completed by December 20, 2006.

In the beginning of the 20th century the Winter family invested their money in the Piešťany spa and did their best to attract both domestic and foreign guests. It was during this period that Ľudovít Winter contracted architects Hegedüs and Böhm who prepared a magnificent project and built the Thermia Palace hotel and spa complex in two years (1910 - 1912).
Thermia Palace and Irma served spa guests for almost 100 years with only partial repairs and reconstructions. After the hotel’s opening in 1912 – in the era of the Austro-Hungarian Empire – Thermia Palace offered luxury, comfort and unparalleled standard of hotel, spa and medical services. In its long years of existence it was visited by many famous people.

Original appearance will remain intact

Both the hotel and the balneotherapy center are under constant and detailed supervision of the National Monument Preservation Office.
The façade and its artistic components will be restored. The hotel will be fully air-conditioned. The ongoing reconstruction work includes new kitchen and energy tracts and a new stairway. Scaffolding will soon hide the entire building as façade reconstruction begins.

At the same time, interior designer Gina Zarski is preparing a sample room. The Austrian designer wants the individual elements and interior details used to evoke the hotel’s history and the era in which this unique building came to life.
The hotel will have 111 luxurious rooms and suites, a restaurant, a parlor, a café and much more.

Irma Spa House is reconstructed by company RAVING, Ltd. The company’s previous experience includes the challenging reconstruction of Irma mud pool. At the moment clearance work is at its peak. At the same time restoration specialists are at work on the site, discovering some very interesting details.
