Last Sunday Piešťany became the center of attention in Slovakia when the Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon arrived for a visit.
He came to the spa during his leisure day. After being greeted by the minister of foreign affairs of the Slovak Republic Ján Kubiš, the general manager of Health Spa Piešťany Klaus Pilz, and the Mayor of the town of Piešťany Remo Cicutto in the foyer of the five-star hotel Thermia Palace, the guests enjoyed a dinner in the Lounge Ferdinand. On the menu there were duck breasts with carrot carpaccio, crêpes stuffed with goose liver, tuna steak, and a special chocolate dessert called “Thermia Mud“.
After dinner the Secretary General and his wife tried some treatments in Irma Health Spa. The special guests first immersed themselves in the waters of the Mirror Pool – a thermal mineral pool, then tried the Mud Pool, and finally enjoyed a traditional massage. Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary General of the United Nations, visited Piešťany thanks to Ján Kubiš, the Slovak minister of foreign affairs, who is a fan of both the town and the spa. We hope the Secretary General enjoyed his stay and will come back in the future.
