During the recent Holiday break, the secretary general of the OECD*, Angel Gurria, was among the many guests to relax at Spa Piestany. Angel Gurria, the former minister of foreign affairs, later the minister of finance of Mexico, and presently the highest ranked representative of the OECD, took to the Piestany spas after exhausting meetings with various Slovak politicians including President Ivan Gasparovic, Premier Robert Fico, minister of foreign affairs Ivan Kubis and other officials of the Slovak government.
During his visit to our famous spas, he was in the company of his wife Lulu Gurria, 18 year old daughter Eva and Ms. Jana Kotova, the ambassador of the Slovak Republic for the OECD in Paris.
Besides the mud bath, when Mr. Gurria felt according to his own words, lost in Egypt, he was most impressed by the Slovak people and their warm hospitality not only in Piestany but also throughout Slovakia. Mr. Gurria and his family received numerous invitations of relaxation during the Easter Holiday; he decided to spend it in Piestany based on the suggestions of ambassador Kotova and the convenience of being within close proximity to Bratislava. The married couple shares a heavy work schedule and is required to travel extensively. Therefore combining important business meetings with the relaxing setting of the spa was not only convenient but also rewarding. Besides spending time in Piestany, he also visited Trencin and Bratislava. During the final press conference Mr. Gurria, the Major of Piestany Rema Cicutta and the general director of SLKP Klaus Pilza spoke in unanimous agreement: When visiting Piestany, don’t forget to visit the rest of Slovakia. We can assume that Mr. Gurria really enjoyed his time spent with us...
*OECD- Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, consists of 30 of the most economically powerful nations today, Slovakia became the 30th member in 2000. The OECD is the successor of the Organization for European Economic Cooperation that was founded in 1948. The new organization, which expands beyond Europe, was realized in 1961, with the goal to help member states continue their economic and social growth. Today the OECD also participates with non-member states; their base includes over 70 international countries.
