After more than thirty years Health Spa Piešťany renewed the tradition of rearing peacocks on the Spa Island. This happened only a month after the celebratory opening of the first 5-star hotel Thermia Palace.
The story of a peacock became an inspiration for the builders of the hotel in 1910-1912. The story says that a peacock with an injured leg fell into one of the pits with thermal water. It then returned to the place regularly, until its leg healed. It was then that people started bathing in the pits and thus discovered the healing powers of the water and the mud.
The tradition of keeping peacocks on the Spa Island was started by the Winters. The peacock became a symbol of hotel Thermia Palace and decorates both its exterior and interior even after the reconstruction. You can find images of peacock on the facade of the hotel, in a stained glass window over the staircase, and interior designer Gina Zarski also used the motive of a peacock feather for carpets in the rooms and hallways of the hotel.
Peacocks had decorated the Spa Island for many years. They did disappear for some time, but today you can once again admire these amazing birds in their full beauty.
