Spa Piešťany preparing a rich and fun Easter program for its guests.
The two Slovak traditions of šibačka and oblievačka – (lightly) whipping women with wicker whips and dousing them with water – are more symbolic than real nowadays, but Easter eggs remain a permanent symbol of the season and a favorite article of decoration. Traditional Easter eggs are hand-colored and hand-decorated; many of them using folk motifs and old-technique finishes. Modern Easter eggs are often works of art, and Slovakia is famous for its woven-wire Easter eggs. You can see some of these egg designs and other folk straw, wire and wicker crafts products on the weekend before Easter (April, 8 – 9,) in the Social Centre of Spa Piešťany.
On Tuesday, April 11th, we bring you an Easter concert of the Alexander Jablokov family. Alexander Jablokov is a prominent violinist who became a Slovak citizen in 1991 and he and his family live in Bratislava. As a soloist he has played upon many of Europe’s famous stages as well as throughout Japan, and the United States. He is the founder of the Chamber Virtuosi orchestra which now features already the third generation of the Jablokov family.
On Easter Monday, April 17th, we will prepare an Easter Egg Hunt for you. Funny Easter eggs will be hidden at various places in the park on the Spa Island and the best searchers will be awarded a free ticket for the Duo Slaviano concert on Tuesday, April 18th.
