The year 2006 will be a memorable for the nearly one hundred year-old hotel Thermia Palace. It will undergo general reconstruction this year, and will be closed from January 15. This full reconstruction was approved by the Board of Directors of Piešťany Spa at their meeting on December 15, 2005. The complete reconstruction of the hotel includes replacement of all distribution paths. New windows and balcony doors will have modern insulating glass which will retain their original appearance. The façade of the hotel will also be renewed, including some of the artistic elements. The hotel will feature new bathrooms and there will be new furniture for the rooms. Restorers will work on repairing the artistic decoration of the interiors and other historic elements of the hotel. The hotel will be fully air conditioned. The kitchen will be moved to a new annex with storage and cloakrooms for the employees. Irma Spa will also undergo repair. However, for financial reasons, only half the building will be reconstructed allowing sufficient capacity to serve the clients of the Thermia Palace. As part of the planned reconstruction, a new technical building with a modern boiler house and mud kitchen will be built using the same traditional process of preparing the mud. The reconstruction will be based on period documents and photographs. The anticipated date for beginning the work is the first week of February while completion is expected in the first week of December, 2006. The hotel’s reopening is planned for December 20, 2006.
